Highway Access- By the Fall of 2010 Shelby County will be located on a Major Expressway from Chicago to Kansas City. This Highway has a large amount of truck traffic due to its connections to other major Highways such as Hwy 61 and 63, as well as Interstate 35 and 29.

Air Access- Shelby County is served by several airports that have a minimum of 3,300 ft. runways. The closest commercial airports to Shelby County are Lambert Airport in St. Louis (152 Miles), and MCI Airport in Kansas City (170). There is also air freight delivery available at Kirksville Regional Airport (55 miles), and Columbia Regional Airport (76 miles).

Rail Access- With our Major Expressway meeting the Rail Line in three of our communities, transferring product from truck to train is a readily available. This line also connects to 2 major intermodal rail systems in Kansas City and Chicago. This allows us to export or import goods from foreign countries such as Canada, Mexico or even overseas with connecting rails to outgoing ports in California and Mexico. 

 

One of our strong points I believe is the labor force that is located within a one hour drive of Shelby County. We have the potential to reach over 60,000 people that are currently working or looking for a job. This is approximately 47% of the working population in Northeast Missouri. If you were too take out the number of people working and just look at the number of unemployed workers in our labor shed. We have around 3,000 people which is 4% of the population of Northeast Missouri. With access to several Community Colleges and Universities in the area Shelby County has the ability to not only reach an educated workforce, but help train your workforce as you grow.
